About Me
Hello, everyone! Thank you for visiting my page. My name is Mary Anna Metaxas. I am originally from Houston, Texas and currently residing in Austin, Texas. I am a student enrolled in the American Sign Language Interpreting Program at Austin Community College.
In October of 2010, upon moving to Austin, Texas, I witnessed for the first time a language that would change my life forever. In an effort to correspond with my first Deaf friend, I attempted to learn basic American Sign Language.
Years later, I completed American Sign Language I - IV as part of my language requirement for my undergraduate degree at Texas State University. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications, along with a minor in English.
Learning American Sign Language at Texas State University was a truly enriching experience and I became very passionate about the language, as well as Deaf culture. My ASL instructor of two years, Jilly Kowalsky is one of my biggest influences, as she inspired me from the very beginning to pursue a career in ASL Interpreting.
To this day, I consider her to be a mentor and friend.
After graduating from TSU, I was determined to become an American Sign Language interpreter.
